SAME DAY STUDENT ABSENCE NOTIFICATION
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department of Education and Training. Parents need to know if their child hasn't turned up for school, and schools need to know when and why a child is absent.
From time to time, a student may be absent from school. Parents comply with their compulsory schooling obligation by providing a
satisfactory reason for these absences. Parents should provide a reason for a child’s absence either before or on the day of the absence, or as soon as practicable. The school’s preferred method of receiving notification for an absence is for a phone call to be made to the office or an email can be sent to

State schools will now be required to notify parents on the same day that any student is absent from school without explanation. Commencing in Term 4, our school will be contacting parents when students do not present for school on the same day. The process will occur as follows:-
8.30 am
| The bell rings, morning session commences and the roll will be marked no earlier than 8:30am

9.15 am | Administration run a report of all students who have not arrived at school and whose absence is unexplained. |

9.30 am | An automated text message will be sent to the primary caregiver of unexplained absent students requesting contact be made with the school asap to provide a reason for the absence. |

1.45 pm | All absence responses from parents will be updated against the student’s record. |
|---|
2.00 pm | Any parents who have not responded to the text message will be phoned by administration staff to seek an explanation for the student’s absence. |

Every school in Queensland will be implementing a Same Day Student Absence Notification system, we seek your understanding should you receive a phone call from our administration team following up on student absences.
